Founded by Herbert Gallen in 1949, Ellen Tracy was originally a manufacturer of blouses. In 1
962, Gallen hired recent college graduate Linda Allard as a design assistant. Two years later, Allard was named Director of Design, and a new Ellen Tracy began
to evolve.
Tracing the rise of the career woman, in 1975, as the firm's junior customers were entering the workforce, Ellen Tracy made a milestone move into contemporary departments.
In 1984, Linda Allard's name was added to the Ellen Tracy label and during her 40-year relationship with the company, Ellen Tracy became synonymous with exclusive, high-quality fabrics, unique color stories, and the concept of the total wardrobe for the
working woman. It is distributed worldwide in premium department and specialty stores.
The evolution of the brand continued when in 2010, Macy's became the exclusive sportswear retailer for Ellen Tracy and the brand launched internationally, most recently in Karstadt Germany.
In addition to its highly successful apparel collections, Ellen Tracy expanded to include collections for footwear, outerwear, legwear, hosiery, belts, eyewear, fragrance, handbags, jewelry and home.
Ellen Tracy designs refined product for modern women with discerning taste. The brand is known for a sophisticated color palette offered in a variety of novelty fabrics and beautiful signature prints.
